Naropa non-writing majors who would like to take the summer for academic credit must register by doing the following:

  • Seeing their academic advisor to determine how the SWP will fit into their degree.

Naropa non-writing majors who have completed the above process will register through the web registration system in March.

Incoming Naropa Students

Students interested in becoming full- or part-time Naropa students should contact the Admissions Office regarding deadlines and application procedures. Naropa MFA, BA, and transfer students may not begin their Naropa degree program in the summer, but may take the summer as noncredit or non-Naropa degree seeking students. Non-Naropa for-Credit Students

2016 Graduate tuition: $995 per credit hour (2 credits per week)

2016 Undergraduate tuition: $995 per credit hour (1.5 credits per week)

Beginning March 16, 2016, non-Naropa students may also take the SWP for academic credit. Naropa University is fully accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools. Contact the Summer Writing Program Office or visit www.naropa.edu/swp for more information on becoming a non-degree-seeking credit student. Keep in mind that SWP weeks taken for undergraduate credit cannot be later converted to graduate credit and vice versa, and applicants for graduate credit must have a Bachelor’s degree. Students should consider carefully whether they need graduate or undergraduate credit. Students seeking credit should first meet with their academic advisor in their home institution.

Applicants for graduate credit must have a bachelor's degree. In order to complete registration and maintain your course enrollment, undergraduate transcripts must be sent to the administrative coordinator no later than June 1. Please send transcripts to:

Obtaining SWP Transcripts

Credit students with a web registration account can obtain an unofficial transcript through web registration. Naropa University has authorized the National Student Clearinghouse to provide transcript ordering via the internet.

Noncredit students may request confirmation that they attended the program from our office.

Noncredit Students

Tuition for SWP 2017: $500 per week.

Students can take the SWP for any combination of the first, second, and/or third weeks. SWP weeks taken for noncredit cannot be converted to credit at a later date. Please consider carefully if you anticipate you may need credit in the future.

Once the student hits “submit," they will be directed to a website thanking them for their registration and indicating that they will be receive confirmation of registration, as well as login information for MyNaropa within three business days. 

Add/Drop Policy

Noncredit students have until Thursday at 5:00 p.m. of the previous week week to drop the SWP without financial penalty. Noncredit students must drop the course online or contact the Registration Coordinator at (303) 546-3511 or . If a noncredit student chooses to withdraw from the SWP AFTER this time, the student will be financially responsible for the entire week.

Students may withdraw (with no refund) and receive a grade of W through that Tuesday of the week. No withdrawals or refunds will be allowed after that Tuesday. In the event of a medical emergency, Naropa students must contact their academic advisor by the deadline.

Students may drop via MyNaropa or contact the registration coordinator at 303-546-3511 or . If a student does not complete the necessary paperwork, they will be held both financially and academically responsible for the whole week.

Students may switch workshops on Mondays before 3:30 p.m.

Students Under 18

Students under 18 are able to take the program; however, the program is designed for adults and there are a several stipulations. Students under the age of 18 need to submit a letter of consent from a parent or guardian, as well as a letter of recommendation from a writing mentor. There are also weekly check-ins with SWP staff. Additionally, an interview or writing sample may be requested as part of the registration process.
