Nataraja Kallio is an educator, psychotherapist, and longtime student of yogic and Buddhist traditions. He serves as Chair of Naropa University’s BA in Yoga Studies program, which he founded in 2007 to provide rigorous, embodied training in the historical, experiential, and philosophical traditions of yoga. He also helped design and currently teaches in Naropa’s MA in Yoga Studies program.
His work draws on several decades of study and practice, including seven formative years in India, across the traditions of Vedānta, Classical Yoga, Tantra, Bhakti, Haṭha Yoga, Modern Postural Yoga, and Vajrayāna Buddhism.Nataraja is the founder and lead instructor of Naropa’s 1000-Hour Yoga Teacher Training Program, one of the most comprehensive programs of its kind. There, students immerse themselves in everything from asana, prāṇāyāma, and meditation to Sanskrit and Ayurveda, while honing their teaching skills and interpersonal awareness, and deepening their embodied understanding of yoga.
Beyond the classroom, he maintains a private practice in counseling psychology, meditation training, and yoga therapy. His clinical approach weaves together integrative psychologies with contemplative practice, offering an embodied and psychologically informed path toward growth and awakening.
