The Dean of Students Office is committed to the health, safety, and success of each of our students. We prioritize this commitment through our CARE team, who supports Students of Concern (SOC).
The CARE Team serves as a dispatch and case management team for students who are going through a difficult time due to various life circumstances including but not limited to, their academic progress and behavior, overall wellbeing, basic needs, and conflict resolution. If you know of a student who falls into this criteria, please complete a CARE team referral for the student of concern through the Naropa Reporting Form.
The CARE team is not an emergency response team. Please call 911 in the case of an emergency and/or campus Security & Safety 720-309-8211, then put in a student of concern/CARE team referral.
Please note, the CARE team follow-up strategies, outreaches and outcomes are confidential and generally will not be shared, except on a need-to-known-basis. Student information and their educational records are protected under the FERPA. Thank you for understanding,and supporting our students.

The Naropa Student Counseling Center is providing Tele Mental Health therapy sessions

Ongoing Support:
Students who wish to engage in ongoing therapy with a counselor in training or short-term

so we can help get you set up. Our process begins with a screening and an intake,
and then progresses to weekly sessions for those students who are in the Scope of
Care we provide. To help support the health of all, we will be providing only video
telecounseling during this time.
Drop-in Support: Students who need same-day, drop-in support can email us at studentcounselingcen@naropa.edu.
We’ll have you fill out some online paperwork, and try to schedule you into a spot
during our daily 3-4 pm drop-in time.
Crisis Support:
Students who need crisis support during this time can access it by calling Mental
Health Partners (MHP) at 303.447.1665 or go to 3180 Airport Rd Boulder, CO for the
24/7 Walk-In Crisis Center. Clients who need extra support are encouraged to email
studentcounselingcen@naropa.edu. Licensed staff check messages several times a day
and will get back to you within 24 hours to schedule a phone follow-up.

Reconnecting on Outer Terrain (ROOT) will continue to rent outdoor equipment and host

The Food Pantry is available to provide non-perishable food items on a short-term

The Naropa Writing Center (NWC) provides one-on-one writing support to all Naropa

as an editing service, our goal is to support the development and refinement of your
writing skills. Writing Fellows may make recommendations and act as guides in the consulting
process; however, the final decision concerning your writing remains in your hands.

Funding Resources
What is the CARES Act?
Congress passed the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act, which includes funding for institutions of higher education. On April 15th, 2020, Naropa University signed and returned a certification and agreement with the Department of Education to receive this federal funding. This funding will be used to offset the expenses incurred due to the COVID-19 Pandemic, and to provide Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) Grants to eligible students, whose lives have been disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Naropa University was allocated a total of $656,811 from the CARES Act and will use no less than half of the funds received ($328,406) to provide HEERF Grants to students, with educational funding priority for students who have the most need. The emergency grants are intended to help offset expenses that students incurred directly related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus (Housing/Food, Technology/Course Materials, Transportation, Healthcare, Childcare).
How much has been distributed to students?
Naropa University has allocated:
- $273,407 to 130 students as of September 30th, 2020.
- $328,406 to 149 students as of November 18th, 2020. (All student grant funds exhausted as of this date)
*Grants allocated are based on actual expenses and may range from $1 - $6,000
*Naropa estimates that 990 unduplicated students were eligible for a HEERF emergency grant during the Spring, Summer, and Fall semesters of 2020.
Who is eligible for a HEERF Emergency Grant?
- Only available for US citizens and eligible non-citizens, who are otherwise eligible to receive Federal Student Aid (Title IV).
- To be considered, a student must be currently enrolled at least half-time in a degree-seeking program.
- If a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) has not been previously submitted, one will need to be completed prior to consideration.
- Must have expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to coronavirus. If needed, the financial aid office will request documentation of these expenses. If documentation is requested and not provided promptly, the application will be disqualified from consideration.

- While we understand that lost wages for off-campus work have greatly impacted our student community, loss of employment cannot be considered an expense. For assistance with lost wages, please file an unemployment claim in Colorado.
Please understand that the funding is very limited and that not all applications will receive HEERF Emergency Grant Assistance. Priority will be given to applicants who:
- Demonstrate the highest need according to the FAFSA
- Are enrolled in a residential degree program (highest impact with the transition to remote delivery and temporary campus closure)
- Do not have other forms of aid available up to the Cost of Attendance (including loans)

- What is CRRSAA—HEERF II emergency funding?The CRRSA (Coronavirus Response and Relief Supplemental Appropriations) Act was signed into law on December 27, 2020, and is intended to provide economic relief to individuals and institutions impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic and the resulting economic uncertainty. The act approved funding to be allocated to the Higher Education Emergency Relief Fund (HEERF) that was distributed directly to universities. As directed by that fund, Naropa University is redistributing emergency grants to students facing financial hardship in the amount of $328,406.Who is eligible to receive the HEERF II emergency grant?To be eligible, you must:
- be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program
- be currently enrolled at least 1/2 time (minimum of 6 credits)
- have a complete 2020/2021 Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) on file
- be a U.S. citizen or Eligible Non-citizen (according to the FAFSA)
- have education-related expenses/unmet financial need, caused by COVID-19, incurred on or after 12/27/20
Students who meet the above criteria are strongly encouraged to apply as soon as possible. At this time, Naropa University estimates that 642 students meet the eligibility criteria for the Spring 2021 semester.

According to CRRSAA guidance, Naropa University "must prioritize grants to students with exceptional need, such as students who receive Pell Grants." The "Estimated Family Contribution" (EFC), calculated on the FAFSA will be the guide Naropa uses to determine "exceptional need" for prioritization.*
Given this, Naropa will be implementing the following application review cycle:
- For the first two weeks, only students who demonstrate the highest financial need according to the FAFSA (0-6000 EFC range) will be reviewed. Students in this category with completed applications by 11:59 pm each Friday will have their applications reviewed the following week.
- All other students (EFC of 6001 or higher) will begin being reviewed Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021.
- After March 23rd, all students will be evaluated on a weekly basis, with priority still given to students demonstrating the highest financial need according to the FAFSA.
- Applications will remain open until the end of the Spring 2021 semester, or until funds are exhausted, whichever comes first.
*Students can view their EFC on the Student Aid Report (SAR) sent to them by Federal Student Aid upon completion of the FAFSA, or by reviewing their “College Financing Plan” on the Financial Aid section of the Naropa Self-Service portal.
How will the funds be distributed to students who receive the grant?
The emergency grant funds will be made as direct payments to students unless the student has requested to apply the funds to an outstanding balance for the current semester. For students directly receiving the funds, the funds will be sent by either electronic-refund/direct-deposit or mailed as a paper check, depending on the student's election in the “Payment & Refund Center” in the Student Finance section of the Naropa Self-Service portal.

What is ARP/HEERF III?
The American Rescue Plan (ARP) legislation was signed into law on March 11th, 2021, which provided an additional $932,548 in student emergency grant funding for Naropa University students.
The purpose of these emergency student grants is to assist with student need and expenses caused by the coronavirus pandemic. In accord with the agreement between Naropa University and the US Department of Education, the student emergency grant funds are to be used for any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or child care.
As funds are limited, priority will be given to students with the highest financial need and first-time recipients.
To be eligible, you must:
- Have unexpected expenses and/or increased financial need due to the national emergency of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Have a complete aid application
- US citizens and eligible non-citizens must have a complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Non-US citizens must have a complete International Student Aid Application.
- Be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program
or,
- Have been previously enrolled in a degree-seeking program since March 13th, 2020 (when the National COVID-19 emergency was declared)

How much has been distributed to students?
Naropa University has allocated:
- $527,637 to 134 students as of June 30th, 2021.
- $624,229 to 160 students as of September 30th, 2021.
- $932,548 to 250 students as of November 15th 2021 (all funds exhausted).
Naropa estimates 1709 students to have been eligible for emergency grants since the beginning of the COVID 19 Pandemic.

We are pleased to announce that additional emergency grant funds have become available for the Spring 2021 semester!
To be eligible, you must:
- have a complete aid application for the 2020/2021 award year
- be enrolled at least ½ time in a degree-seeking program for the Spring 2021 semester
- have unexpected expenses and/or increased financial need due to the national emergency of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As funds are limited, priority will be given to students with the highest financial need and to students who have already utilized all other forms of aid available to them (including loans).
The application is now open Wednesday, January 13th, 2021 through Saturday, January 23rd, 2021.

We know that COVID 19 has impacted our students and their family's financial pictures in many ways. If your financial circumstances have changed due to the pandemic (or other factors), please keep in mind that you can request a “Change in Financial Circumstance Review” (Professional Judgment) to have your more current financial circumstances evaluated instead of the 2019 tax year for need-based Federal financial aid. How will the funds be distributed to students who receive the grant?
The emergency grant funds will be made as direct payments to students unless the student has requested to apply the funds to an outstanding balance for the current semester. For students directly receiving the funds, the funds will be sent by either electronic-refund/direct-deposit or mailed as a paper check, depending on the student's election in the “Payment & Refund Center” in the Student Finance section of the Naropa Self-Service portal.
How much has been distributed to students?

- $328,406 to 184 students as of June 30th,2021. (All student grant funds exhausted as of this date)

What is ARP/HEERF III?
The American Rescue Plan (ARP) legislation was signed into law on March 11th, 2021, which provided an additional $932,548 in student emergency grant funding for Naropa University students.
The purpose of these emergency student grants is to assist with student need and expenses caused by the coronavirus pandemic. In accord with the agreement between Naropa University and the US Department of Education, the student emergency grant funds are to be used for any component of the student’s cost of attendance or for emergency costs that arise due to coronavirus, such as tuition, food, housing, health care (including mental health care) or child care.
As funds are limited, priority will be given to students with the highest financial need and first-time recipients.
To be eligible, you must:
- Have unexpected expenses and/or increased financial need due to the national emergency of the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Have a complete aid application
- US citizens and eligible non-citizens must have a complete Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).
- Non-US citizens must have a complete International Student Aid Application.
- Be currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program
or,
- Have been previously enrolled in a degree-seeking program since March 13th, 2020 (when the National COVID-19 emergency was declared)

How much has been distributed to students?
Naropa University has allocated:
- $527,637 to 134 students as of June 30th, 2021.
- $624,229 to 160 students as of September 30th, 2021.
- $932,548 to 250 students as of November 15th 2021 (all funds exhausted).
Naropa estimates 1709 students to have been eligible for emergency grants since the beginning of the COVID 19 Pandemic.

We are pleased to announce that additional emergency grant funds have become available for the Spring 2021 semester!
To be eligible, you must:
- have a complete aid application for the 2020/2021 award year
- be enrolled at least ½ time in a degree-seeking program for the Spring 2021 semester
- have unexpected expenses and/or increased financial need due to the national emergency of the COVID-19 pandemic.
As funds are limited, priority will be given to students with the highest financial need and to students who have already utilized all other forms of aid available to them (including loans).
The application is now open Wednesday, January 13th, 2021 through Saturday, January 23rd, 2021.

We will begin reviewing applications on Monday, January 25th, and expect to begin notifying students of decisions by Monday, February 1st. If additional funds remain after the first application cycle, then the application will be reopened.

If your financial circumstances have changed due to the pandemic (or other factors), please keep in mind that you can request a “Change in Financial Circumstance Review” (Professional Judgment) to have your more current financial circumstances evaluated instead of the 2019 tax year for need-based Federal financial aid.
