Ian Hobbs, PhD

Dr. Ian Hobbs has over 20 years of experience in various roles, in fields ranging from future fuels research, operations and project management in resource exploration, to general consulting for several Arizona-based companies. Additionally, he has interned and worked as a technician on project teams for companies operating under grants funded by the Department of Energy and the National Energy Technology Laboratory. Lastly, he enjoys education and has been teaching and/or tutoring various STEM courses for over a decade.

Academically, he holds a PhD with a cognate in Industrial and Organizational Psychology, an MBA with dual emphases in Finance and Accounting, an MS in Technology Management, and a BS in Environmental Engineering Technology. His research interests include the team adaptability and performance of highly skilled teams operating in extreme work environments (e.g., extreme teams or ICE teams).

On a personal note, Ian is originally from Durango, Colorado, and he is proud to call himself a sixth-generation Coloradan, but he also considers himself a worldly person. He and his wife are both teachers in higher education and enjoy many hobbies together. In particular, they love power yoga, scuba diving, golfing, snowboarding, pickleball, stargazing, and hiking or camping in the Rockies. However, he mostly enjoys just spending time with his family.
