Since ancient times women have gathered in community to tell stories, celebrate, heal and connect. They enacted sacred rites to mark life passages and transitions, to mark the changes in the seasons, to heal, to remind and to manifest that which is needed for the good of the community. As writers, they continue to do the same. The work spans time and distance and connects to each other. It is an offering of words into the collective conscious and affects change through doing so.
Women of Naropa started as a way to honor the women in our writer's lineage and to showcase the incredible talents of the women faculty and students in the JKS. Every year for the last 14 years we have held a spring reading that features the original creatrix herself, Anne Waldman. The reading also is a fund raiser for Bombay Gin, the school's literary journal and a local Women's Organization. (TBD)
