Naropa University Named to Sierra Club’s “Cool Schools” List for Commitment to Sustainability

Naropa the Only University in Colorado to Divest from Fossil Fuels

September 20, 2016 (Boulder, CO)—In its 10th annual “Cool Schools” listing, the Sierra Club has included Naropa University due to its commitment to sustainability across several metrics. A new category in the listing this year concerned divestment from fossil fuels, and whether a university has divested its holdings from coal-mining companies, coal-dependent utilities, tar-sands-mining companies or all fossil fuel-related companies.

Naropa University is one of a dozen colleges and universities nationally—and the only university in Colorado—to fully divest from fossil fuels.

The Cool Schools ranking serves as a guide for prospective students, current students, administrators, and alumni to compare colleges’ commitments to environmentalism. The Sierra Club introduced the ranking to raise environmental standards on campus, and to publicly reward the institutions that work hard to protect the planet.
