Bill McKibben Coming to Boulder
350.ORG FOUNDER COMING TO NAROPA UNIVERSITY ON JUNE 18 TO DISCUSS THE “THE HOTTEST FIGHT IN THE HOTTEST YEAR”
Earth Day, April 22, 2016 (Boulder, CO) — Naropa University today announced that Bill McKibben, one of the most influential climate change activists in the world, will be a featured speaker at Naropa’s vaunted Summer Writing Program on June 18.
This public event will be McKibben’s first appearance in Boulder since 2012, when the 350.org founder appeared before a sold-out audience as part of the ‘Do the Math’ tour to encourage divestment to decrease carbon emissions. As a result, Naropa University became one of only 12 universities in the country to fully and completely divest from fossil fuels. This event is co-sponsored by Naropa University's Summer Writing Program & the Joanna Macy Center. Participants in the Summer Writing Program will receive free admission to the program.
Bill McKibben, the co-founder of 350.org, the first planet-wide, grassroots climate change movement, which has organized twenty thousand rallies around the world in every country save North Korea, spearheaded the resistance to the Keystone Pipeline, and launched the fast-growing fossil fuel divestment movement. McKibben is the recipient of the 2014 Right Livelihood Prize, sometimes called the ‘alternative Nobel.’ He has authored more than a dozen books, including The End of Nature, which is regarded as the first book for a general audience about climate change.
Listen to Bill McKibben's interview with KGNU Community Radio on fracking and the interaction between politics, law, and the fossil fuel industry.
