Ed.D., Assistant ProfessorCarla Sherrell has been an educational leader for over 30 years as a counselor, teacher, and a social justice facilitator and consultant. She is Co-Executive Director of The Sum, a Colorado nonprofit that supports educational institutions, other nonprofits, and businesses in becoming inclusive communities across ethnic, racial, gender, sexual orientation, religious, and other sociocultural group affiliations/locations. Carla brings this work to the Naropa community by supporting the infusion/embedding of multiculturalism, equity, and social justice throughout all aspects of counselor education and practice. Her specific areas of focus as a scholar, teacher, and practitioner include the impacts of sociocultural power and oppression in the somatic counseling relationship, the integration of social justice and contemplative practice in 21st century education, and the development of diverse, sustainable social justice communities.
