Therapeutic Use of Public Lands

Therapeutic Use of Public Lands

with Deryn Wagner (City of Boulder Parks & Recreation Dept) & David Ford (City of Boulder Open Space & Mountain Parks)
Wed, February 14th 12pm-1pm on Microsoft Teams (see below)

Currently a Senior Landscape Architect for the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department (BPR), Deryn Wagner loves working at the intersection of multiple fields – from land conservation, park design, and transportation, to youth engagement, partnerships, and wilderness therapy. Since the early 2000’s, she’s facilitated hundreds of focus groups, community meetings, workshops and group circles, looking to build community and consensus at every turn. Before coming to BPR, she worked for the National Park Service, Boulder County, Open Space and Mountain Parks, Growing Up Boulder, her own consulting firm, and even a wilderness therapy program for teens. Career highlights include starting the shuttle service to Chautauqua, activating a future park site with pop-up nature play features, planning a multi-use path at Bryce Canyon National Park, and designing two elementary school playgrounds in Denver. She holds dual Masters’ degrees in Planning and Landscape Architecture from the University of Colorado-Denver, a Bachelor’s in Literature from the University of Virginia, and several planning and design awards. She also has two young daughters (Magnolia and Sequoia), is married to a devoted Special Education teacher, and is deeply indebted to nature – not just for the food, water and air it provides, but for the career she’s built protecting it and for the joy she and her family find in every pile of dirt.
