Naropa is proud to be one of the few certification programs offered in the U.S. for Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy in collaboration with the Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies (MAPS). These images are from the first cohort’s opening retreat in March of 2022, featuring two facilitators from MAPS and a fascinating trust-building group exercise. ⁣
⁣
If you’ve recently watched the documentary series by Michael Pollan called, “How to Change Your Mind” on Netflix or read his book of the same title, you learned quite about about the life-changing results of Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy and learned about MAPS as well. ⁣
⁣
Our program offers specialized training in the clinical use of MDMA in approved settings and trainees will also gain foundational competencies in additional psychedelic therapy modalities, including ketamine and psilocybin therapies. The program is expanding soon with some amazing announcements, so please visit our website and subscribe for updates.

Please join us in congratulating Professor Ben Williams, PhD, on the recent grant he received to translate arguably one of the most influential Sanskrit texts in Kashmir Śaivism!⁣
⁣
On the power of Sanskrit, Williams shares: "Often, we are so enmeshed in our linguistic and cultural context that we need to study something extremely far away from that world to begin to get perspective on our own implicit worldview. What the deep study of these texts affords is a glimpse into another way of organizing knowledge—another syntax of experience. It’s really a doorway into another way of seeing, and I think that’s a basis for a much deeper empathy, cross-cultural understanding, and ability to connect to the civilization of South Asia."⁣
⁣
Williams is the Program Lead for Naropa's Master of Arts in Religious Studies: Yoga Studies program. Check out more about that program on Naropa's website, and see the link in our bio to learn more specifically about the translation project!

You're invited! Naropa is a proud sponsor of a new project to preserve the legacy and archives of Maria Sabina and other Mazatec curanderas, launching with a special online event on Maria Sabina’s birthday, July 22 2-4PM MT.
Presented by Alma Institute and the Fungi Foundation.

𝗪𝗵𝘆: Mazatec scholar and historian Inti Garcia Flores is currently the custodian and guardian of a vital historical archive of the Mazatec culture. The archive includes journals, video footage, ceremonial textiles and jewelry, and an abundance of historical artifacts which are currently endangered by climate damage. Inti’s goal is to restore, digitize, catalog, and preserve the archive to ensure its availability for the Mazatec people.⁣
⁣
It is time for us to show up for a community that has generously offered the world medicine and healing. As a psychedelic community, we have this opportunity to begin a process of reparations and to cultivate a relationship with the Mazatec people grounded in respect and humility. We know that as a community we can support Inti and the Mazatec community through financial contributions, spreading the word, and more! All support is welcome!⁣

"I think at its core it is about transformation in a way that transcends capitalist notions of careers equating worth. This program and the rigor associated with it as a Master’s program were vastly transformative for me and for those around me."⁣

Conflict rarely has positive associations, but Naropa's Office of Restorative Community is working to change that. ⁣
⁣
“My amazing colleague Dr. Amanda Aguilera taught me that if we want to see a world in which different needs, beliefs, and opinions don’t escalate to policies and punishments, we have to start with transforming our very own community, which means building the awareness and the skills for being in conflict,” shares Regina Smith, Vice President of Mission, Culture, and Inclusive Community. “If we’re going to have diversity, conflict is inevitable. So learning how to do conflict in a healthy way is part of what we’re working on.”⁣

“The benefits of the Ecopsychology program at Naropa for young professionals is multifaceted: it provided me with a conceptual understanding of transdisciplinary approaches to creative problem solving for our world’s ecological crises. It also gifted me the practical processes through which I can sustain myself and others while engaging challenging work in our fields and the unfolding collective experience of our world in ecologically, politically, psychologically, etc., novel times.⁣
⁣
I came to the Ecopsychology program with a background in the natural sciences and the understanding that, while significant, that particular paradigm of methodologies for engaging the world was greatly limited. It allowed me the space to explore for myself what is most meaningful in service of all life, where my particular gifts were in engaging that, while also providing me with the applied tools to follow these insights professionally. ⁣
⁣
Now, I am well-equipped to be on a PhD track with teaching opportunities, work for the California Institute of Integral Studies as a program manager in the department of Professional Psychology and Health, and explore the realms of teaching and leading group mindfulness meditation, which comes directly from the Ecopsychology program’s dedicated encouragement of it students and communities to engage contemplative practice. It fulfills the holistic requirements of resourcing its students both inwardly and outwardly, particularly where proficiency in community building and engagement, leadership, creative entrepreneurship, and written/communication skills are concerned. I am so thankful for my time spent at Naropa University and would not hold this wealth of professional opportunity without my experience as a master’s student in Ecopsychology.”⁣

The Naropa community takes pride in its continuing efforts to nurture an environment of belonging for our LGBTQIA2S+ family. We celebrate the rainbow of colors they add to the Naropa tapestry in their roles as students, staff, faculty, alumnx, and supporters.

The legacy of Naropa as a place for freedom of expression, activism, and antidiscrimination still holds true.

Naropa also acknowledges that as a community we still have work to do. As we continue to introduce the community to our renewed Mission, Vision, & Values and explore our new Community Compass, we must recommit ourselves to better allyship for all underserved and underrepresented communities.

Allyship does not begin or end with flying a flag or marching in a parade, but it does include:

🌈 Using preferred pronouns.
🌈 Thinking of non-heteronormative intimate and family arrangements as more than an afterthought.
🌈 Speaking about injustices you witness.
🌈 Taking responsibility for causing harm, regardless of intent.

How will you continue to uplift the LGBTQI2S+ community beyond June?
