Community Practice Day: Art as Revolution

October 11 @ 8:45 am - 8:00 pm

On Tuesday, October 11, Naropa will come together for our fall Community Practice Day. This is a time for students, faculty, and staff to join in contemplative practices, participate in experiential workshops and to re-connect to our founding vision.

Classes are paused for the day, and for faculty and staff this is a paid professional development day so that all can participate.

This fall’s theme is Art as Revolution—a bow to Naropa’s long lineage of artists and arts education, and the power of the arts to affect change both personally and socially. Art forms in our dreams and wakefulness, but is not easily conceptualized. It is a gateway to other ways of knowing and worlds of communication. It unleashes our hidden potential, our innate goodness, and our brilliant sanity, as well as connecting us to our pain and the pain of the world. Art is activism, subversive and daring, showing the shadow side of government, institutions and of the power of greed, passion and ignorance. Be moved by the power of expression. Subtly and not so subtly. Inspire your voice. Awaken your song. Let ink flow. Paint the future. Now.

This is a Naropa signature event with offerings throughout the day, with most events held at Nalanda and virtually.

We are thrilled to host Community Week Artist in mini-residence and Naropa Alumnx, Jaguar Womban as our Keynote Speaker for Practice Day! Jaguar returns to Naropa after appearing at the Afrofutures & Astrology Festival back in April of this year. In addition to many other faculty and artists we are especially delighted that two Naropa Founding Faculty, Barbara Dilley and Lee Worley, will also be offering workshops – a very rare opportunity and gift to our community.

Please review the schedule and plan which session you will attend. Note that some require preregistration due to space limitations.
