Janine Ibbotson: Artist's Statement

Spring '14 TOC

I have always been interested in creating symbols and representational images. From the first time that I picked up an East Asian calligraphy brush, I was immediately captivated by the ink that has flowed through the veins of this three-thousand-year-old art form. I am especially drawn by the round form of the enso circle. Working with intense black ink and vivid colors, drawing circles is both a way to contemplate and meditate and a means to express myself giving voice to my concerns and well-wishes for our planet. I offer my work with the aspiration that it may transmit energy and inspire people to take action.
