Mentoring is an important component of the Interdisciplinary Studies program, providing invaluable support for your studies. A mentor is a person accomplished in a field of knowledge. You and the mentor will spend time establishing a learning relationship and the mentor will guide you from the time you choose your fields of study to the culmination of your degree. Then your mentor will assess your portfolio and thesis to see if you have satisfactorily progressed in your chosen fields.

Ideally, having experienced this learning relationship, someday you will serve a mentor to someone else. Mentoring is a unique kind of learning process for those involved; it is a complex, contemplative, and integral level of functioning and learning. Mentoring is an essential contemplative component in Naropa University’s Interdisciplinary Studies program.
