Daniels Opportunity Scholarship This scholarship will not be awarded for the 2010-2011 academic year. The Daniels Opportunity Scholarship will be awarded to full-time undergraduate students with Junior or Senior standing. The award amountis contingent on funding from the foundation; in the past the award amount was $5,000 per student, per year.
Applicants must demonstrate significant financial need as evident through the FAFSA, academic capability or potential as exhibited in the admission application, and must meet one or more of the following characteristics:
age 25 years or older when s/he receives the scholarship
a GED recipient
foster care youth
All applicants for the award will be required to write a 1–2 page essay explaining how they meet the selection criteria, and describing any challenges they have faced in earning a college degree.
Final selection will be based on a combination of financial need, scholarship application essay and either admissions application (for newly entering students) or prior record at the University (for returning students). The Financial Aid director, in consultation with other staff members, will review all applications and make final selection of recipients.
Recipients will be eligible to receive the award for the second year as long as they maintain full-time status and earn a minimum GPA of 3.0. (A student in his/her final semester who needs less than 12 credits to graduate may remain eligible for the award.)
