Daniels Opportunity Scholarship The Daniels Opportunity Scholarship will be awarded during the 2008-09 academic year to five full-time undergraduate students with Junior or Senior standing. The award amount is $5,000 per year and is awarded for two academic years.
Applicants must demonstrate significant financial need as evidenced through the FAFSA, academic capability or potential as evidenced in the admission application, and must meet one or more of the following characteristics: age 25 years or older, a GED recipient, foster care youth, or returning military personnel.
All applicants for the award will be required to write a 1–2 page essay explaining how they meet the selection criteria, and describing any challenges they have faced in earning a college degree.
Final selection will be based on a combination of financial need, scholarship application essay and either admissions application (for newly entering students) or prior record at the University (for returning students). The Financial Aid director, in consultation with other staff members, will review all applications and make final selection of recipients.
Recipients will be eligible to receive the award for the second year as long as they maintain full-time status and earn a minimum GPA of 3.0. (A student in his/her final semester who needs less than 12 credits to graduate will remain eligible for the award.)
