Types of Aid: Scholarships
The deadline for scholarship application materials for most institutional scholarships is April 1 by 5 p.m. (MST) . Some scholarships may have different deadlines and those dates will be specified within the description. Also, see scholarship descriptions for detailed information on qualifications and requirements.
All Naropa scholarships are open to international students unless stated otherwise.
Applicants for all scholarships listed in this section must:
- Apply for financial aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA, as discussed below) or International Student Application if applicable by the March 1 deadline.
- Have a completed admissions application on file for one of the university's degree programs.
Submit scholarship application materials according the requirements listed below for the specific scholarship to which you are applying.
For any scholarship that requires additional materials, please do the following:
- Email application materials to finaid@naropa.edu
- Include your full name and student i.d. number or the last four digits of social security number on all application materials.
- Please send all materials as a single attachment in the email (letters of recommendation may be sent seperately).
Scholarship awards range from $500 to $11,000/year.
Undergraduate students must be enrolled full-time (12 or more credits per semester) and must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better.
NEW Peer Education Scholarship
The Peer Education Associates (PEAs) seek to address the co-curricular educational needs of students at Naropa University through programming and one-on-one resourcing. PEAs are trained in the development of meaningful educational programs and activities that address personal, interpersonal, and developmental needs of students, with particular emphasis on Health and Wellness, Diversity and Social Justice, and Leadership. Peer Education Associates will also hold office hours to provide one-on-one and small group outreach to students.
Naropa Honor Scholarship
Naropa Honor Scholarships are awarded to a limited number of entering, full-time students from all programs. Students must demonstrate outstanding academic merit and financial need.
Naropa Presidential Scholarship
Naropa Presidential Scholarships are awarded to a limited number of entering, full-time students from all programs. Students must demonstrate exceptional academic merit and financial need.
International Student Scholarship
Awarded annually to an international graduate or undergraduate student who has financial need and who does not qualify for US Federal aid.
NEW The Summer Writing Program Scholarship in memory of kari edwards
Beginning summer 2012, The Summer Writing Program Scholarship in memory of kari edwards will be offered each year to one credit or noncredit student accepted into Naropa University’s Summer Writing Program.
Nancy Ashman Memorial Scholarship
Awardedto one entering, first-year student who exhibits strong academic promise and significant financial need.
John W. Cobb Scholarship
Awards one undergraduate student engaged in the study of peace at Naropa University.
The Coburn Berry Scholarship for First Generation Students
The Coburn Berry Scholarship is offered to one or two students who are first generation undergraduate students (neither parent attended college), who demonstrate financial need.
The W.E.B DuBois Scholarship
Awarded to one incoming or returning, graduate or undergraduate, student who can demonstrate experience in or working with populations of color. The scholarship is available only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The award is not renewable, although students may reapply for subsequent years.
Aimee Grunburger Award
The Aimee Grunberger Award is awarded to one graduate, undergraduate or noncredit Summer Writing Program student of nontraditional age who demonstrates excellence in the field of poetry.
Francis Harwood Scholarship
The Francis Harwood scholarship awards one outstanding Environmental Studies student each year based on departmental recommendation.
Zora Neale Hurston Scholarship
Awarded to selected students who can demonstrate experience in or working with populations of color.
Martin Janowitz Scholarship
Awarded annually to an undergraduate in Environmental Studies or to a graduate student in Environmental Leadership.
The Charles B. Edison Jinpa Scholarship
Awarded each year to one or two returning graduate or undergraduates students, who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, and who can demonstrate experience in working with underrepresented populations.
Marvin I. Naiman Scholarship
Awarded annually to two undergraduate students with financial need, who have taken a nontraditional path to higher education (e.g. returning to schol after a substantial hiatus).
Gerald Red Elk Scholarship
Awarded to one Native American student at a time, the scholarship was established to honor Gerald Red Elk. The award is renewable.
Roof Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to one or more students exhibiting financial need.
Collin Wolcott Music Scholarship
Awarded to two outstanding undergraduate music students each year by Naropa’s Music Department. The award is nonrenewable.
The Lucien Wulsin Scholarship in the Performing Arts
Awarded to two incoming or returning MFA in Theater or undergraduate BFA students. The scholarship is available only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. The award is not renewable, although students may reapply for subsequent years.
