Nicaraguan poet Daisy Zamora is the author of four books of poetry in Spanish, and editor of the first anthology of Nicaraguan women. Collections of her poetry in English translation include The Violent Foam and Riverbed of Memory. During Nicaragua’s Sandinista Revolution, she was a combatant for the FSLN, voice and program director for clandestine Radio Sandino, and Vice-Minister of Culture for the Sandinista government. A prominent figure in Central American poetry, her internationally published work has brought her many literary awards, including Nicaragua’s National Poetry Prize, the Nicaraguan Writers Center award for contributions to Nicaraguan literature, and a California Arts Council Fellowship for poetry. Featured in Bill Moyer’s PBS series The Language of Life, she was honored as 2006 Woman Writer of the Year by the National Congress and the National Association of Artists in Nicaragua.
