Degree seeking and visiting students who are currently registered in any for-credit courses may audit selected courses during the fall and spring semesters by following the procedures below:
During the first week of class, print out an audit form or pick one up from the Arapahoe Campus.
Bring the audit form to class to obtain the instructor’s signaturee
Submit the form to Student Administrative Services on or before the last day of drop/add for that class (remember, some classes are on an alternate schedule. Check MyNaropa or the printable course schedule to see drop/add dates for a particular course.)
You will be notified via email if you were admitted as an audit or not. If you were not admitted, you must stop attending immediately..
Students who are admitted to a class will be charged $25 per credit hour plus all related course fees. Students should be aware that this charge may be billed to your account after you receive your financial aid refund check. Therefore, your financial aid may not automatically pay for your audit classes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which courses may be taken as audit?
Only courses that are listed by the department as available for audit may be audited. Weekend workshop and summer classes are never available for audit. See the Auditable Course Schedule for specific courses available.
Instructor permissions must be giving on the form in order for us to register you into the course. If the instructor signed the form, and the course is available for audit, we will register you into the course.
How much does an audit cost? $25 per credit hour plus any associated course fees.
Who may audit a class? Any degree seeking or visiting student who is currently taking other courses for credit may audit a course. Financial or other holds will prevent you from being registered into an audit.
What permission is needed for a student to audit a course? Students must have the signature of the instructor in order to audit courses. However, students will only be allowed to be registered as an audit in the class if the course is has been approved for audit by the department.
Do I get a grade? The audit course shows on the transcript but the student does not receive a grade. The instructor is not obligated to grade or provide feedback on the student’s work.
Why did my friend get to audit a class but I didn’t? The instructor has the discretion to permit as many or as few students to audit a class as he or she would like. Students will only be registered in courses designated by the department as available for audit, regardless of instructor permission.
How do I find out if I got into the audit? Keep checking web registration and your student email. If all permissions are in place, you will be registered in the audit after the last day of drop/add for the course or within a few days of receiving your form, whichever comes later. We notify you via email. If you don’t get in, you have to stop attending.
Can I drop my audit? Students may not drop, withdraw or receive a refund for audited classes.
I’m registered for a course for credit, but I’d like to take it for audit, instead. Students may only drop a course they are registered in for credit, and then register for an audit at the discretion of SAS. SAS will ensure that by doing this, the student is not preventing other students from registering for credit.
If you submit an audit form, but are already registered for credit, you will not be registered in the audit.
I took a course for audit but I did the work and the instructor said she would give me a grade. May I have the course changed to credit? Under no circumstances may an audited course be changed to credit.
My instructor said it was ok for me to sit in on a class without registering, why should I sign up for an audit? No student may sit in on a course without paying or registering. Not only is it unethical and unfair to other students, but it is against policy and disciplinary action may be taken against students to haven’t paid for attending a class.
