In 1997, Judith Dack experienced a profound spiritual awakening on a Jewish Renewal yoga and meditation retreat. Subsequently, she became the summer yoga teacher there and for many years offered a unique program blending Iyengar yoga, mindfulness meditation, and Jewish spiritual practice. She was also well known there for her unique method blending philanthropy with community building by “stand-up fun-raising.”
Her continued gratitude for the teachings of Reb Zalman Schachter-Shalomi, former World Wisdom Chair of Naropa University, led to a path of leadership in the world wide Jewish Renewal movement. Judith is the longest standing member on the Board of Directors for ALEPH: Alliance for Jewish Renewal where she remains devoted to serving the flourishing of the legacy and teachings of Reb Zalman. She is known for her passion and enthusiasm in building alternative Jewish spiritual community. She facilitates programs using the transformative powers of art making, Hebrew chanting, yoga, meditation, and writing.
In her previous careers, Judith was employed as a fashion buyer for various department stores including Macy’s New York, and Bloomingdale’s. She also owned her own interior design business and her own yoga studio. In 1977 she graduated from University of Maryland with a B.S. in Human Ecology.
Later in life, Judith completed graduate school at Naropa University in 2014 majoring in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology specializing in Art Therapy. Judith knows the power of a contemplative education first hand and is committed to serving the mission of the university. She currently resides in Boulder, CO and works as an Art Therapist serving young adult women in transition. She is the mother of two adult daughters.
