Ethical Principles Guiding the Search Committee

The presidential search committee of Naropa University has agreed to ensure impartial, ethical and respectful treatment of candidates, and also ensure that a decision is reached based on the most complete and accurate information. The following are the committee's guidelines:
- Our primary focus is the need of the institution to attract the most highly qualified candidates for the position of president.
- Only the chairperson and the chairperson of the board of trustees are authorized to speak about the search process to the media, on behalf of the presidential search committee.
- We will adhere to the following code of responsibility, accuracy and integrity:
- To respect the confidentiality of all prospects and candidates; Not to reveal the name of or any information about any prospects or candidates until the final, public stage of the search process.
- To adhere to the highest standards of ethical and professional conduct.
- To be fair, accurate, honest and responsible in my management of information.
- To avoid practices that would conflict with my ability to be fair and unbiased.
- To develop my own perspectives prior to group discussions yet remain open-minded.
- To guard against inaccuracies, carelessness, bias and distortion made through either emphasis or omission of information.
- To admit any misrepresentation of information when I become aware and will correct it promptly and prominently.
- To strive for impartial treatment of issues and dispassionate handling of controversial subjects.
- To not permit personal interests to distort or misrepresent the facts.
- To bring reports of concern on candidates to the chair in order to allow for checks on their accuracy before sharing widely.
- To understand that no code of ethics can prejudge every situation.
- To use common sense and good judgment in applying ethical principles to search work.
- To consider the content and intent of this statement to be a matter of personal responsibility.
