Anne Maclean : Astropoetics

========================================== return to TOC for issue: Fall '09

Oh, how the gentle Moon,
watched in secret by a jealous Star –

A Star that soon,
labouring under forces far
stronger than its weary beauty,
will be torn apart,
leaving a dusty trace
like pieces of a broken heart
flung out across the galaxy,
or lost inside a vengeful vortex,
vanished beyond all probability.

– But the Moon, observing but untroubled,
holds the Night together in its sweetest season,
and mocks the mighty darkness.
