Billy crouches beneath
the Byzantine icon of Christ
and stares into his asymmetrical eyes.
He takes out a crayon
touches up the Savior's eyes,
fleshes out the face,
adds a mustache,
and erases aloofness.
He gazes into the face again
knowing he's forgiven.
