World Premiere of Robert O'Hara's Play "the GOOD BREEDING project"

Presented by the Naropa University Performing Arts Department

Performance Dates Are April 29 and 30, 2005

BOULDER, Colo. (April 19, 2005) -- The Naropa University Performing Arts Department will present the world premiere of acclaimed playwright Robert O'Hara's "the GOOD BREEDING project" on April 29 and 30, 2005, at 8 p.m., in the Naropa University Performing Arts Center, 2130 Arapahoe, Boulder. The play represents O'Hara's adaptation of the ancient Greek myths -- inspired by the works of Aeschylus and Euripides -- that recount the curse on the house of Atreus, a tale of bloody family revenge carried out across multiple generations. The world premiere marks the culmination of a month during which O'Hara has been in residence with Naropa University's interdisciplinary BFA program in Performance. Tickets are $6 for students, seniors and Naropa University staff and faculty, and $8 for the general public. Seating is limited so reservations are recommended. The public may call 303-245-4833 for more information or to reserve tickets. The performances are rated R.

O'Hara catapulted to fame after his debut work, entitled "Insurrection: Holding History," first appeared. He subsequently won the distinguished Oppenheim Award from Newsday for the best new playwright of 1997 for that work, which he both wrote and directed.

Since that time, the playwright has received numerous awards, including a Rockefeller Fellowship, TCG Extended Collaboration Grant, NEA/TCG Fellowship, a Van Lier Fellow at New Dramatists, the first Mark Taper Forum's Sherwood Award, the TANNE Award for exceptional body of work, the John Golden Award and many others. O'Hara has written films and teleplays for Martin Scorsese, Spike Lee, Avnet/Kerner, HBO, ABC, Universal Pictures, Sony Pictures, New Line/Fine Line Cinema and Artisan Entertainment. He will make his film directing debut this winter with the horror film "My Place in the Horror." O'Hara's new play, "Antebellum," will be included in the O'Neill Playwriting Conference during Summer 2005.
