Naropa University Presents “Elegant Attraction” Exhibit
Nalanda Campus to Host Exhibit April 30-May 14
BOULDER, Colo. (April 18, 2007)— Four emerging female artists will exhibit a variety of exciting new work in a two-week senior exhibition at the Naropa University Nalanda Gallery, 6287 Arapahoe Ave. The exhibit opens April 30 and runs through May 14, with an opening reception on Friday, May 11, from 5 - 8 p.m.
Works included in the exhibition are paintings on canvas and masonite by Kalee Jones W and Edwina Straub; altered clothing and hand-made jewelry by Celeste Townsend; as well as paintings on paper, drawings on paper, and hand-made puppet-people by Lauren Trojanowski. The artists of “Elegant Attraction” share an affinity for contemplative education and boldly explore themes of pilgrimage, identity, and pattern through their diverse media.
Kalee Jones W describes her experience with art as a journey to the roots of human experience; a sacred wallowing in her own un-nameables.
Edwina Straub grew up by the shores of the Australian Pacific and had an early fascination with patterns within the world of arts. She offers the viewer an immersion into her world of water, light, and forms.
Celeste Townsend is propelled by texture and pattern, juxtaposing ideas and materials that contrast to create primal urban outfits that represent the nature of human identity.
Lauren Trojanowski’s paintings and puppets give attention to self-consciousness, self-awareness, and limitation within the context of limitlessness. She is interested in reaching towards the shared context of existence in a body and the spirit’s impulse to create even when confined.
Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Naropa University is a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian liberal arts institution dedicated to advancing contemplative education. This approach to learning integrates the best of Eastern and Western educational traditions, helping students know themselves more deeply and engage constructively with others. The university comprises a four-year undergraduate college and graduate programs in the arts, education, environmental leadership, psychology and religious studies.
