Naropa University Receives Historic Boulder Award
Bell tower restoration earns recognition from preservationists, designers and architects
BOULDER, Colo. (February 8, 2007)—Naropa University is slated to receive the Historic Boulder Award Sunday, February 25, 2007 at 5:30 p.m. in a ceremonial dinner at the Hotel Boulderado.
The Historic Boulder Award is chosen yearly by a committee of preservationists, designers, and architects to recognize outstanding preservation efforts throughout Boulder County.
Thanks to a grant from the State Historical Fund, a program of the Colorado Historical Society, Naropa was able to completely reconstruct the bell tower on the Lincoln Building, formerly Lincoln Elementary School, which was erected in 1903. The Lincoln Building currently houses the Lincoln Studio as well as several classrooms, including Shambhala Hall.
Hi-res photos of the bell tower restoration are available upon request. See below for previews.
The dinner at the Hotel Boulderado is part of the Historic Boulder Annual Membership Meeting and will include guest speaker Patricia Gay, executive director of the Preservation Resource Center of New Orleanssince 1980. Additional award recipients include the city of Superior, for the miner cabin that is the future History Museum of Superior, and Historic Louisville, for the History Museum on Main St.
Accredited by the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools, Naropa University is a private, nonprofit, nonsectarian liberal arts institution dedicated to advancing contemplative education. This approach to learning integrates the best of Eastern and Western educational traditions, helping students know themselves more deeply and engage constructively with others.
