Naropa Community Art Studio – International partners with Transitions Global
NCAS-I participates in Boulder County Open Studio to raise funds for team to bring Naropa’s Art Therapy to Cambodia in Summer 2012
BOULDER, Colo. (September 14, 2011) – Naropa Community Art Studio International (NCAS-I), a new initiative developed through Naropa University’s Art Therapy program has partnered with Transitions Global, an organization dedicated to providing shelter girl survivors that have been victims of sex trafficking. NCAS-I will participate in the 2011 Boulder County Open Studio tours with two weekend events created to increase awareness for the mission of NCAS-I and to raise funds to bring a team of Naropa Art Therapy students and faculty for a summer 2012 service learning project to travel to Cambodia to work with Transitions Global. NCAS-I’s Open Studio events include:
- September 30-October 2, 2011: Painting Marathon Relay - A 48-hour painting relay marathon, consisting of three teams and three large canvasses. Each team will keep the brush going non-stop, with themes being decided by each team and with the canvas being awarded to each team’s highest donor. The event will start at 9:00 p.m. on Friday, September 30th and go straight through 9:00 p.m. on Sunday night, October 2. The event will be joined by live music, theatrical performances, drumming, dancing – anything to keep the brushes moving!
- October 8-9, 2011: Taste of Art Therapy Fair – A lively weekend of art therapy options with many of Boulder County’s top art therapists, as well as Naropa Art Therapy students and faculty. Sample of artwork options: Matchbox art, mandalas, altered books, painting, clay, mixed media and more.
The Naropa Art Therapy degree concentration, part of the Transpersonal Counseling Psychology program, is approved by the American Art Therapy Association and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Schools and Colleges. Naropa’s Art Therapy program provides students with rigorous clinical training, as well as competent social engagement. The NCAS-I initiative was developed to enhance the experience of art therapist as action-oriented and acutely aware of the socio-cultural concerns of society. NCAS-I and Transitions Global have determined meaningful and practical ways that art therapy practices can be implemented as trainings, interventions, and workshops with TG staff and participants.
