Governor Hickenlooper Announces "Naropa University Day"

 

Official Proclamation Recognizes Naropa as Leader in Contemplative Education as Part of 40th Anniversary Celebrations

 

Sept. 18, 2014 (Boulder, CO): Colorado Governor John Hickenlooper signed a Proclamation declaring today "Naropa University Day." Governor Hickenlooper recognized Naropa's role as a leader in contemplative education and acknowledged its many contributions to the academic, cultural, and economic vitality of the State of Colorado since the university's founding in 1974.


The full text of the Proclamation:

WHEREAS, Naropa University, located in Boulder, Colorado, was founded in 1974 by the esteemed Buddhist leader, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University is celebrating its 40th Anniversary in 2014; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University is this nation's leader in contemplative education and is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University has always been a magnet for great minds, intellectual curiosity, and those who search for greater meaning; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University's Summer Writing Program has attracted and taught some of our nation’s greatest poets, authors and performers; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University and its 250 faculty and staff teach and serve the educational journey of more than 1,000 undergraduate and graduate students, preparing them to effectively address the most profound challenges and to transform the world around them; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University graduates work around the world as therapists, teachers, creative artists, environmental leaders, chaplains, entrepreneurs and community activists; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University has been recognized as a "College of Distinction" and one of the "8 Greenest Colleges" in the United States; and

WHEREAS, Naropa University plays a substantial and vital role in the cultural, academic, and economic fabric of the State of Colorado;

Therefore, I, John W. Hickenlooper, Governor of the State of Colorado, do hereby proclaim September 18, 2014, NAROPA UNIVERSITY DAY in the State of Colorado.
