Naropa University Exceeds Goal at Scholarship Fundraising Event
The Naropa Event raises more than $80,000, as well as a $35,000 match to Boulder Community Foundation Flood Relief Efforts
BOULDER, Colo. (October 16, 2013)--Naropa University is pleased to announce that its inaugural fundraising event for student scholarships, "The Naropa Event," exceeded its fundraising goal of $50,000, and met a matching challenge of $35,000 by Jerry Colonna, chair of the Naropa's board of trustees, which will be donated by the university to the Flood Relief Fund of the Boulder Community Foundation.
"Naropa University is touched by the outpouring of generosity from the Boulder County community," expresses Naropa University President Charles G. Lief. "The inaugural event far exceeded our expectations, from the event sponsors to the fundraising efforts that exceeded $80,000, including the matching donation to the Flood Relief Fund of the Boulder Community Foundation by Naropa's board chair, Jerry Colonna. We are grateful to be able to continue providing scholarship support to our students."
More than 300 enthusiastic guests attended The Naropa Event at Naropa's Nalanda Events Center, where they enjoyed dancing, multimedia installations, and live performances by various Naropa community members, including music by Mark Miller, professor and director of Naropa's BA Music program, and Intuit, a Boulder-based band composed of Naropa alumni. Three Leafs Catering provided delicious food for the event, and Downslope Distilling provided specialty "Naropatinis," complete with an orchid garnish. A live auction offered items unique to Naropa, including an original calligraphy scroll by the university's founder, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche, as well as a rare and limited edition poetry scroll created by poet Allen Ginsberg.
Matching fund contributor Jerry Colonna was joined on stage by Helen Gemmill, trustee and former chair of the Community Foundation Serving Boulder County. Gemmill commented, "The entire evening was truly 'Naropa!' The event itself was unique, fun, and meaningful, and this generous gift symbolizes the school's commitment to being a strong and supportive community partner."
