Naropa University Names Janet Cramer, PhD as New Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs

(May 29, 2013)--After a search process encouraging the engagement of its whole community, Naropa University announces the appointment of Janet Cramer, PhD as new Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs, effective August 1. "I am committed to a broad and inclusive search and I believe we succeeded in that mission," reflects Naropa President Chuck Lief. "Three very skilled and distinct candidates were brought to the community for consideration from an applicant pool of more than sixty...The search committee deliberations were candid and respectful, and the consensus to offer the post to Dr. Cramer was enthusiastic."

Presently working at Florida Atlantic University as both Associate Provost for Assessment and Instruction, as well as Professor in the School of Communication and Multimedia Studies, Cramer earned her PhD in Mass Communication, with a minor in Feminist Studies. "I consider myself a scholar first, and an administrator second," explains Cramer. "I believe that the best administrators are those individuals who identify with, understand, and support faculty...I believe in a management style that is supportive and collegial--one that enables and empowers the efforts of each individual toward a collective good."

Prior to her current position at Florida Atlantic University, Cramer held many academic and administrative posts at the University of New Mexico, including Associate Dean of Curriculum and Instruction, Director  of Women Studies, and the Director of the Preparing Future Faculty Program. Cramer also spent nine years in Rochester, Minnesota, as Director of Communications for the Sisters of Saint Francis--a spiritual community working internationally in the areas of education, arts, health care, homelessness, peace and justice, and ecology.
