Patagonia's Rose Marcario Delivers Earth Day Keynote
BOULDER, Colo. (March 20, 2012) -- Naropa University's School of Natural and Social
Sciences presents Rose Marcario, COO of Patagonia, for an Earth Day talk on "Sustainability,
Leadership, and Shambhala Practice," Wednesday, April 18, noon to 1:30 p.m., at the
Performing Arts Center, 2130 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder. The lecture is free and open
to the public.
As Chief Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Patagonia, Rose Marcario
has presided over the company's most prosperous years in its nearly 40 year history,
proving that companies that do what is right will do well. Patagonia's mission is
to build the best product, cause no unnecessary harm, and use business to inspire
and implement solutions to the environmental crisis. She has been a practitioner of
Shambala Buddhism for over nineteen years, inspired by the writing of Naropa's Founder,
Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche while she was an executive in the Silicon Valley and studying
with Pema Chodron, Jack Kornfield, Ram Dass, and other great teachers.

Operating Officer and Chief Financial Officer of Patagonia, Rose Marcario is responsible
global operations and finance. She has served on numerous private enterprise and non-profit
Boards and has held leadership positions at as the Director of Corporate Finance for
L.A. Gear, Vice President Global Finance and Treasury for NYSE-listed International
Rectifier Corporation, she served as Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer
of NASDAQ-listed General Magic, Inc., a spin out of Apple Computers, and before joining
Patagonia, she was Executive Vice President in charge of Mergers, Acquisitions and
Private Placements for Capital Advisors, LLP, where she was responsible for over $2
billion in transactions in consumer products, services and technology.
She has worked to preserve the California Desert Lands in conjunction with the Morongo Basin Preserve. She is an avid kayaker and hiker. Rose holds a MBA from California State University, Los Angeles and a B.Sc in Business and Finance from SUNY Albany.
