Horse Whispering: An Evening with Frank Bell
A benefit for Colorado Horse Rescue

Natural Horsemanship is the art of training, working and interacting with horses in a way that harmonizes with the horse’s innate instincts, responses and temperament, building a relationship based on mutual respect, trust, kindness and communication instead of fear, intimidation and force. Natural Horsemanship embodies a revolution in horse-handling techniques, as horsemen and women rapidly embrace this evolved movement.

In this very special program, trainer and horse whisperer Frank Bell will demonstrate his Natural Horsemanship techniques for building trust with even the most troubled and anxious of horses. Once trust and communication are established, horses previously considered unmanageable perform willingly and with enthusiasm. The focus of Frank’s training is on the development of a safe relationship with the horse through proper training, and on fostering a learning environment in which the horse can blossom, transforming distrust into trust and problems into accomplishments.

“When the trust is properly developed, the horse can tolerate almost anything. And the horse would do almost anything before it would endanger the rider,” Bell says.

With this solid foundation firmly under the horse and rider, the entire world unfolds as confidence begets confidence, and every riding discipline and interest is suddenly accessible as the union truly becomes a partnership. Whether you own horses or simply admire their grace and beauty from a distance, prepare to be amazed as this unforgettable evening illustrates the highest and best that is possible when humans interact with animals in true, compassionate stewardship.

Frank Bell is one of the premier masters in the most significant revolution in horse handling techniques to come along for hundreds of years. His horse training techniques embrace gentle handling and advanced communication, and his methods are being taught by certified partners and mastered by horse people worldwide. Frank has made it his personal mission to work with the most difficult and even dangerous horses. Without using force or other common strong-arm tactics, he develops a foundation of trust upon which all further development must be built. Frank’s unique 7-Step Safety System has helped thousands of horses and their owners worldwide to bridge the communication gap, and truly places the horse and rider on higher ground as they “discover horses they never knew.” Frank has been featured on CBS, NBC and ABC; in numerous newspapers and equine magazines; and on Fox TV live in New York City before the opening of the film The Horse Whisperer in 1998. A follow-up three-part series reporting on Frank’s

7-Step Safety System in Western Horseman magazine catapulted Frank into the international arena. www.horsewhisperer.com

Class discussion and interaction will focus on our responsibilities of leadership and trustworthiness to the horse. You will have the opportunity to observe herd interactions, as well as learn foundational skills including catching, haltering, leading and grooming, gaining and increasing awareness of your own energy and intention through attunement to the horse's responses.

Equine Inspired Growth and Learning
Diane Kennedy

By their very nature, horses have much to teach us about ourselves. They exist in present time and are always congruent in their actions and behavior. In this class, we will work closely with a variety of horses ranging in color, temperament and breed, accessing our issues of trust, intimacy, boundaries and self-esteem. Through hands-on horse play, contemplative practices of meditation, journaling and group process, we will explore how these states manifest in our personal and professional lives. This course is appropriate for those seeking deeper self-exploration and knowledge, and for anyone interested in the field of Equine Assisted Learning/Psychotherapy. Class size is limited.

Diane Kennedy, MA, earned her master’s degree in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology from Naropa University, and is certified in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy (EAP) through the Equine Assisted Growth and Learning Association (EAGALA). She is a registered riding instructor through NARHA, and an avid believer in and practitioner of natural horsemanship. Founder of the Medicine Horse Program, Diane has recently returned to private practice to combine her love of horses with her therapeutic skills in EAP, Gestalt, dreamwork, and Jungian philosophy. Diane brings a crazy wisdom to all her teachings.

Natural Horsemanship: Groundwork
Emily Johnson

This course will provide the necessary foundation for building a harmonious partnership with the horse. Pursuing benevolent leadership, you will learn to move the horse forward, backward, and laterally, exploring a deeper awareness of intention and timing as well as the differences between responsiveness and reactivity. You will learn the skills necessary for creating intentional movement in the horse, ground tying, and grooming in partnership as you prepare to finesse your interaction with the horse off lead. Advanced discussion surrounding herd behavior and horse psychology will be an integral part of the class. This course is designed for those who wish to build or sharpen groundwork skills, as well as those who would like to experience working closely with a horse for the first time. Ages 14 and up are welcome. Class size is limited.

Emily Johnson, owner of Mountain Rose Training, LLC, is an accomplished horse professional and has apprenticed under nationally recognized trainers Eitan Beth-Halachmy and Maria Wasson. Drawing from the teachings of Buck Brannaman and Pat Parelli, Emily has developed her own training methods utilizing a direct approach the horse naturally understands. She loves the challenge of working with young or troubled horses, and enabling people to better understand the mind and behavior of the horse. Her instruction reflects her passion for equipping both horses and humans on their journey toward partnership.
