Spiritual Care Program

The vision of Rigpa's Spiritual Care program is, as Sogyal Rinpoche wrote, "to inspire a quiet revolution in the whole way we look at death and the care of the dying, and the whole way we look at life and the care of the living." Inspired by The Tibetan Book of Living and Dying, the Spiritual Care Program applies the compassion and wisdom of the Buddhist teachings in practical ways to support those facing illness or death, their loved ones and medical caregivers.

Designed for people of any faith, the program has been developed since 1993 in seven European countries, North America and Australia. A major emphasis has been education and training, with seminars for the public and health care professionals, including hospital and hospice in-service trainings, workshops and conferences. In-depth trainings in end-of-life care are available in the United States, Ireland, Germany and the Netherlands. To supplement the trainings, study groups enable health care professionals to clarify and deepen the spiritual practices they have learned, and exchange insights as to how these perspectives can be applied appropriately in their work.
