12. Holding open hours for Permaculture students to carry out projects or lab work with assistance
13.  Financial record keeping
14.  Submitting work requests when repairs, requiring Facilities attention, are needed
15.  Any and all other appropriate duties assigned by supervisor
16. Monitoring soil pH - Since the pH of a growing medium is influenced by the substrate: solution ratio, volume of medium used as well as soluble salts, the GA should strive for consistency in their method of determination. In other words it is not as easy as one might think and it is important to have a reliable, scientific process.
17.  Fertilizing - The balance of plant nutrients is important in producing vigorous, efficient plants. In some cases when nutrients are out of balance severe deficiencies or toxicities may occur. Plant stress leads to pathogens.  Some pathogens can devastate an entire greenhouse. Therefore, it is important to consider both the source and amount of fertilizer used.
18. Watering & Water Quality - The irrigation of greenhouse crops is one of the most critical of all production practices. And yet it is frequently overlooked and taken for granted. To provide conditions for optimum plant growth it is essential to become familiar with the factors that influence soil moisture. Developing an effective plan for irrigation management requires a careful match between the needs of the plant and the growing medium. Although growers are most frequently concerned about the lack of water in the medium, research now indicates that the potential hazards from overwatering may be much greater.
Water Quality: The quality of irrigation water is dependent on total salt content, the nature of salts present in solution and the proportion of Na to Ca, Mg, bicarbonates and other cations. The following table presents guidelines on the interpretation of the water quality factors.
19. Diagnosing nutritional deficiencies - The correct diagnosis of nutritional deficiencies is important in maintaining optimum plant growth. The recognition of these symptoms allows one to "fine tune" their nutritional regime as well as minimize stress conditions. However, the symptoms expressed are often dependent on the species of plant grown, stage of growth or other controlling factors. Therefore, the GA should become familiar with nutritional deficiencies on a crop-by-crop basis.
20.  Cleaning and disinfecting the greenhouse - Problems with diseases such as Pythium root rot or insects such as fungus gnats occur in most greenhouses. Over the course of growing a crop, infectious microbes accumulate and algae flourish on moist surfaces harboring fungus gnats and shore flies.  Minimally,  a full cleaning & disinfecting of the greenhouse is required in the winter.  Additional c & d is recommended periodically during the growing season and as needed when pest issues avail.
21. Pest Management – A definitive program ought to be established.  What is done when manual, organic, and biological control methods fail?  Do we use only ‘organic’ or homemade pesticides or do we allow for commercial type pesticides if the need arises?  In either case, if we use anything that kills a ‘pest’ we then need to have a policy with respect to Worker Protection Standards (see following).
22.  Worker Protection Standards – (from CEPEP – Colorado Environmental Pesticide Education Program - http://www.cepep.colostate.edu/wpsResources.htm) The Worker Protection Standard (WPS) was issued in 1992 by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). This regulation applies where pesticides are used in production of agricultural plants for commercial or research purposes on farms, forests, nurseries, greenhouses, and related structures. It covers pesticide applicators, mixer/loaders, disposers of pesticide containers, and those who may be exposed to a pesticide residue on the job. Both general-use and restricted-use pesticide applications are covered by WPS.
The regulations are exposure reduction measures that reduce the risk of pesticide poisonings and injuries among agricultural workers and pesticide handlers. WPS defines two groups of agricultural employees: agricultural workers and pesticide handlers. (see Pesticide Fact Sheet: Federal Worker Protection Standards Definitions for definitions).
