All positions listed are for one full academic year unless otherwise noted.  Compensation will be a $2,000 scholarship/ semester and a $1,500/ semester stipend for 10 hour/ week positions.  5 hour/ week positions would receive a $1,000/ semester scholarship and a $750/ semester stipend.

BFA Performance

Type of graduate assistant position:  Instructional Support

Preferred weekly work assignment: 10 hours per week in the Fall 2008 semester

Additional considerations:  Half assistantship (full 10-hour position for one semester) to partially support the BFA curriculum. The instructional assignment will be determined by (and based on) the applicant's expertise in one of the three major BFA curricular components - dance, acting or voice.

The position cannot be applied in the summer semester.

Additional considerations: The Naropa Community Art Studio (NCAS) is our research laboratory for studying various models of social engagement through art. For several years now we have been investigating the territoryof practice where art is therapeutic without being clinical. We have presented our findings at national conferences, and have also published this work, with more articles on the way. These accomplishments could not have materialized without an RA position.
The RA will be instrumental in conducting literature searches, gathering data for projects, and helping to set the research agenda for the year. It is also a desire to put together an edited book on the NCAS, with all the chapters written by Naropa University facutly, community studio members, select students, and our RA from this year and past years. The RA also helps with the planning and preparation for our program lecture series. Faculty are also aided in various ways by the RA. For example, I plan to compile and organize a detailed collection of transpersonal material on art therapy. The RA position will help to complete this large project.

Lenz for American Buddhism, this project invites distinguished artists, professors, community leaders, practitioners, and so on to campus, to audit courses, confer with faculty, and complete a publication or other project.  The selected GA assists Academic Affairs in arranging for each Fellow's stay on campus (including serving as liaison to faculty and departments with whom the Fellow may wish to study and otherwise work with; arranging for a public lecture or workshop; providing clerical support to the GAs; etc.).  The GA also assists Academic Affairs in promoting the next year's Lenz Fellows competition, handling applications, and so on.

Additional considerations:  In the fall, the GA will attend and assist the instructor in logistics, administrative support including groupactivities, and creating, setting up and running Power Point presentations in five classes of Group Dynamics(8/26, 9/2, 9/9, 9/16, 10/7). This class meets on the Paramita campus on Tuesdays from 6:10-9:00 pm.. The position would require approximately 1 hour outside of class to prepare Power Point materials as needed.  In addition, this position would be required to support multiple sections of Assessment and Appraisal across fall and spring semesters. In this class the GA would be asked to monitor test materials, inventory test materials, coordinate test packages, assist with groups in classroom and be part of the ongoing work students are involved in (as allowed by the GA's time schedule.) The department recognizes that the GA may not be available to attend each of the classes in all of the sections, but these courses will need assistance throughout the year dependent on the availability of the GA.
