Naropa.net Student Email Policy

Student User Policies and Responsibilities (Updated 3/1/07)

  • Users are required to agree to and abide by the university user policy in order to use the provided account. Failure to abide by the policy will result in appropriate disciplinary actions.
  • Users are provided university email as long as they are a current students (including on a Leave of Absence). Email will be available for three months following graduation.
  • Users are expected to receive, read and respond to emails, as well as regularly access their accounts. Failure to check email does NOT relieve the responsibility for the information sent.
  • Prohibited activity includes: violation of copyright law, misrepresenting yourself or another through the use of university email, attempting or accessing unauthorized accounts, sending spam, causing harm to the university network through viruses (etc.), causing/attempting to harm an individual or institution or any violations of the Student Code of Conduct (found in the Student Handbook).
  • Users are responsible for complying with all international copyright laws.
  • Users are responsible for personal computers, software, set-up issues and security/anti-virus protection. The university does not provide support for personal computers, software, set-up issues or security/anti-virus protection.
  • It is strongly recommended that students NOT use this email to make online purchases or subscriptions (use another email account!).
  • Users are responsible to have current anti-virus software and to be able to use it.
  • Users are responsible for their own data. The university is not able to retrieve, protect or guarantee personal data (e.g. documents, spreadsheets, emails, etc).
  • Users are expected to use their email accounts for university and educational purposes only. Use of the email system to run a business is prohibited.

Naropa University Responsibilities

  • The university is responsible for clearly stating and presenting university email policy.
  • The university is responsible for protecting the confidentiality of students by not selling student information.
  • The university is responsible for providing students with email access for educational purposes.
  • The university is responsible for taking appropriate action if a user is found in violation of the user policy.
  • The university reserves the right to freeze accounts suspected of violating user policy or accounts that threaten the network.
  • The university will not monitor email activity on a regular basis, but reserves the right to do so in order to investigate if a user is in violation of university policy.
  • Faculty has access to email class-lists and will assume that the email account provided by the university is the account that the student will be using, and that this account is active.

Naropa University reserves the right to change or alter these terms of service at any time and for any reason.
