Center for the Advancement
of Contemplative Education

Since its creation in the fall of 2005 with a grant from the Frederick P. Lenz Foundation, the Center for the Advancement of Contemplative Education (CACE) has served as the home and hub of a range of projects aimed at investigating the ways in which contemplative approaches enrich higher education research, teaching, administration and campus life.

The center seeks to develop the field of contemplative higher education to reflect cultural diversity and include voices derived from world wisdom traditions. CACE is intended to stimulate:

  • Achievement of greater clarity about the theory and methods of contemplative education
  • Development of methods to assess outcomes of contemplative curricula
  • Greater effectiveness in integrating contemplative approaches into higher education curricula
  • Broader inclusiveness in the ongoing vision and revision of contemplative education
  • Expanded opportunities for collaboration among faculty across diverse campuses and disciplines
  • Opportunities for Naropa faculty to share and deepen contemplative approaches through learning and sharing within the university.

The projects of the Center for the Advancement of Contemplative Education currently include:

CACE is funded by a grant from the Frederick P. Lenz Foundation for American Buddhism, which is dedicated to promoting the benefits of American Buddhism, meditation, yoga and related Buddhist practices as a pathway to self-realization and the harmonious blending of the material and spiritual in contemporary American society.
