Additional Admission Requirements
MA Transpersonal Counseling Psychology:
Wilderness Therapy
Please note: The fall 2010 semester for the Wilderness Therapy concentration will begin with a 10-day Wilderness Intensive August 2–12, 2010.
In addition to the standard graduate admission requirements, the following is required for MA Transpersonal Counseling Psychology: Wilderness Therapy:
- Prior work experience in a clinical setting is recommended; experience in working with others is essential.
- Personal maturity
- Master's level writing ability and strong verbal communication skills.
- An on-site interview is required for all applicants who are being considered.
- Supplemental Prerequisite Form: Applicants must have completed course work in Abnormal Psychology (3), Developmental Psychology (3) and Theories of Personality (3).
- Experience in wilderness travel, campcraft and leave-no-trace camping including a trip (as leader or participant) of at least 10 days in the back country that meets the following criteria:
- 10 days outside under the stars (no huts, cabins or hostels)
- travel by personal means
- carry all necessary gear for food and equipment (no car camping or use of horses, lamas or sherpas)
- students may design their own 10 day back country trip

- Preferably students have developed one outdoor skill besides backpacking.
- Adequate physical & medical condition to participate in the program’s field activities. This includes the ability to carry a forty to fifty-pound backpack on and off trail for five to ten miles in a day, intermediate-level swimming ability, ability and willingness to participate in rock climbing, horseback riding and gardening.
