Additional Admission Requirements

MFA Theater: Actor Created Lecoq Based Theater

In addition to the standard graduate admission requirements, the following is required for MFA Theater: Actor Created Lecoq Based Theater:

  1. Applicants must have strong experience in not only artistic performance or creation, but also a physical discipline, ranging anywhere from sports to dance.
  2. Prior artistic ensemble experience is considered desirable.
  3. Applicants must demonstrate high levels of commitment, maturity and dedication.
  4. Selected applicants will be interviewed and may be asked to attend an audition.
  5. Representative photo.
  6. Performance resumé.

Probationary Period

The first seven weeks of this program serve as an extended

audition and are considered probationary for all first-year

students. After these seven weeks, the faculty will assess all

students and may ask a student to leave. These cases may

be deemed necessary based on evaluation of the

following criteria:

  1. Is the student physically capable of following the training without causing possible injury to self or others?
  2. Is the student psychologically capable of following the training without causing possible harm to self or others?
  3. Is the student showing signs of delinquency: frequent absences or lateness to class, a disruptive comportment within class?

Admission to the Second Year

At the end of the first year, the faculty will notify students

who will be invited to return to complete the second year.

Students will be evaluated according to the following criteria:

  1. Does the student have an adequate physical instrument to meet the demands of the second year?
  2. Does the student have the improvisational skills and imagination to be able to create work within the second year’s pedagogical territories?
  3. Is the student capable of working with his or her ensemble of peers and collaborators?
  4. Is the student’s level of artistic commitment to the program sufficient for the demands of the second-year material?

Assessment Tools: Lead teachers with significant input from the instructors

  1. A cumulative perspective on the student's attendance, in class participation and general attitude.
  2. A cumulative assessment of the student's work in the weekly creation.
  3. Level of mastery demonstrated by the student's solo performance of the 20 Movements.
  4. A speculative assessment of the student's potential in realms of theatrical creation other than performance and improvisation: playwriting, directing, scenic and visual creativity, musical ability, acrobatic and skills relating to the circus arts, a demonstrated ability in multimedia creation.
