“Human Rights and Women’s Rights in Islam”: A Keynote Address by Shirin Ebadi
Shirin Ebadi keynote address
On October 9, 2009, Nobel peace laureate Shirin Ebadi gave the keynote address: “Human Rights and Women’s Rights in Islam” at the Women's Leadership and Activism in the Muslim World symposium at Naropa University’s Nalanda Events Center.
The Naropa University Peace Studies Department and the Cordoba Initiative sponsored the event. Ebadi is an Iranian human rights activist, lawyer and the 2003 Nobel peace laureate.
Ebadi also participated in the opening panel of the symposium, “Women’s Leadership and Activism in the Muslim World” held the following day.
This program was funded by a grant from the Rockefeller Brothers Fund and the Cordoba Initiative.
