Aikido Concentration
BA in Traditional Eastern Arts−Aikido Concentration
Aikido is the Japanese form of defense that literally translates to “way of adapting
the spirit.” In the great warrior tradition, budo, the fighting arts were studied and practiced for defense of society and as a personal
path for awakening.
In aikido, you’ll train to learn to protect all life, even the life of your enemies.
Creating compassion this vast is a lifetime undertaking. On the mat with your partner,
you’ll engage with varied attacks and defenses. Whole-body training takes place through
watching, listening, feeling, and doing. The goal is to become calm, centered, and
receptive during intense encounters.
At the end of each semester, you will have the opportunity to test for rank through the international organization, the Aikido School of Ueshiba.
