Jim Cohn: Ejection of Consciousness

Spring '14 TOC

I write with the great Ted Berrigan
Looking back over his shoulder,
Smoking a Chesterfield King,
In his underwear, in bed,
& the sound of the sea on
Long Island Sound in my head.

Time is short, the path so long.
The power that sustains us is beyond our grasp.
Our weapons pose not the smallest threat.
People say it’s barren and harsh here,
But it’s the boulders on the western rim
That if you saw them, would change
Your sense of beauty forever.
