Michael Schene: Peggy-Sue, Who's Sorry Now

Spring '13 TOC

Peggy-Sue, O, my love,   did I kill you?
You wanted love; I wanted sex
Your love was strong but perhaps I did kill you.

In the end, finally, I never knew you
Like a black hole, I was sucked into your vortex
Peggy-Sue, O, my love,   did I kill you?

Rare were the times we talked, so, I never knew you.
I began to feel your righteous vex
Your love was strong but perhaps    I did kill you.

We stopped horseback rides, afternoon tea no more
As time passed, our troubles became complex
Peggy-Sue, O, my love,    did I kill you?

You snubbed me at every turn how could I know you?
Seemingly with great joy you tossed me on your pile of rejects
Your love was strong but perhaps    I did kill you.

Now that you are well buried I will never know you.
Your broken neck, spittle, flecks
Peggy-Sue, O, my love,    did I kill you?
Your love was strong but perhaps    I did kill you.
