Born in Boston, Helen Howe Braider moved to Dublin, Ireland, at 19 to attend university. She ended up working in an art foundry for four years before discovering the transcendent power of stone. She learned stone carving in Dublin and Paris before returning to Boston. Helen worked as a T.A. in the Museum School and the Carving Studio in Vermont. In 1992 she moved with her family to Boulder.
