MFA in Theater:
Lecoq Based
Actor Created Theater
In cooperation with the London International School of the Performing Arts (LISPA), Naropa University offers an MFA in Lecoq Based Actor Created Theater. Inspired by the late French theater master Jacques Lecoq, the MFA is fully integrated into LISPA
and operates entirely overseas in London, UK. Students not only benefit from LISPA’s diverse student body, but also from an international
team of teachers, and among them, personal students of Lecoq himself.
The Lecoq Based Actor Created Theater MFA attracts professionals in their twenties, thirties and forties, offering its applicants the unique opportunity to train in a pedagogy of theatrical creation and physical theater while in London UK, Europe’s largest city and a hub of the arts world.
The curriculum takes the shape of two interrelated voyages: the Initiation Course (first year) and the Advanced Course (second year).
The Initiation Course is focused upon the relationship between the body and the imagination of the actor/creator, and requires the student to engage in a manifestly physical approach to all topics. In the Advanced Course, students embark upon a voyage of creation, exploring tragic and comic territories with reference to classical styles, but always with an eye to the contemporary creation. |
