Guest Music Artists

Jayme StoneNaropa University welcomes guest artist in residency Jayme Stone.

Two-time Juno Award winning banjoist Jayme Stone makes music inspired by sounds from around the world. His album, "The Other Side of the Air," is a travelogue of imaginary landscapes and faraway lands. The music traverses the Cinnamon Route through Persia and India and revisits and reinvents melodies Stone collected in West Africa. In concert, you'll also catch his quartet playing a Trinidadian Calypso, Bulgarian mountain dance, and Stone's lush, edgy originals.

PRESENTATION
Jayme Stone's Lomax Project

December 2, 7:30–9 p.m. // Free
Nalanda Campus // 6287 Arapahoe Ave.

Stone will discuss his latest project focusing on songs collected by field recording pioneer Alan Lomax. This “collaboratory" brings together some of North America's most distinctive and creative roots musicians to revive, recycle, and reimagine traditional music. In this presentation, Stone will share his process by playing field recordings, contextualizing Lomax’s work, and sharing the stories, traditions, and people behind the songs: sea captains, cowhands, fishermen, prisoners, and homemakers. Stone will also perform a few songs and get everyone up and singing.
