Naropa's Arapahoe Campus

Academic Affairs

Naropa University represents a unique experiment in American higher education. Founded by a Buddhist scholar and revered practitioner, Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche , the university is at once profoundly concerned with matters of the mind, heart and spirit,
and yet noticeably nonsectarian. Our Buddhist inspiration provides a framework in which liberal arts education
(at the undergraduate level) and professional education (at the graduate level) are placed in constant interaction with students’ emerging self-identity, inner strength and moral compass through exposure to a variety of contemplative practices.

It is an honor for me to serve as the university’s chief academic officer. The Office of Academic Affairs works with individual degree-granting departments, as well as the library, advising office and nondegree continuing education unit, to ensure that at every moment our educational offerings support the continuing interaction between Eastern contemplative practices and Western-based academic disciplines. We are truly a work-in-progress, with more than three decades of contributions to American arts and letters, psychotherapy and education, and a commitment to continuing our influence on American higher education.

This website is intended to provide a glimpse into the university’s rich resources. I hope it motivates you to be in communication with us. Ours is a special story that is still unfolding, and we invite conversation partners, supporters and fellow storytellers to help us further develop our model of education.
