August 31-October 3, 2015
Meet the Artist Reception: Friday, September 11, 2015 from 5–7 p.m.

Naropa University Art Galleries is honored to have local artist and Naropa University Adjunct Faculty, Tyler Alpern exhibit paintings in the Lincoln Gallery on the Arapahoe Campus from August 31 to October 3, 2015. With fluid images, strong brushwork and a vibrant color palette; View by Date explores Tyler’s vision of the social and environmental world around him. Please join us on Friday, September 11, 2015 from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. for a Meet the Artist Reception in the Lincoln Gallery (Lincoln Building) on the Arapahoe Campus, 2130 Arapahoe Avenue, Boulder, CO,  80302 to celebrate his work.

View by Date reveals that Tyler is a colorist, humorist and an inventive painter. From Edge Boston, Alan Ilagan (Feb 23, 2008) wrote about Tyler’s work, “Each of his pieces tells a story, often many stories - spinning off one another, ricocheting back with new ideas and slants, and creating an ongoing dialogue within and without the work itself. Under Alpern’s touch, the simplest of scenes lend themselves to grandly elaborate tales, replete with psychological back-stories and symbolic gestures of stunning accuracy.”

Tyler explains his work, “Even though I have painted something before, such as sky, water or flesh, I never know how I will paint those same subjects the next time. I have no formulas or routines. I find my own way. I have to discover how to paint a subject in each and every new painting. There is very little repetition. I reinvent, try new palettes, new patterns, and find new ways to resolve old problems”.

View by Date also challenges the art world’s premise of artists being allowed to only show recent work—nothing older than two or three years. Since when does art have an expiration date?  Please visit his website at tyleralpern.com for more information about his art.
